Proper Wine Storage
Exposure to temperature fluctuations, light vibrations and humidity can all negatively impact the flavor and quality of the wine. While wine does change over time as it ages, improper storage can spoil the wine and ruin the taste. The last thing you'd want is to store a valuable bottle for years just to open it and it tastes spoiled.
Proper wine storage conditions allow the wine to age in the way it was intended by preserving the original flavors and aromas. Even for those who have wine cellars, utilizing CAT 5 wine vault storage allows our clients to have peace of mind that their wine collection is safely stored in all the proper conditions. Let's take a look at the exact conditions your wine storage should contain.
- LIGHT: UV light exposure can breakdown chemical compounds within the wine. White wines are more suseptable than reds. It is best to store wine in a dark location to preserve the quality of the bottle.
- TEMPERATURE: Temperature is one of the most noticable effects of improper wine storage. Kept below 25 degrees F, wines can freeze; stored above 68 degrees F, wine can age to fast and spoil. To avoid spoiling your wine, it is recomended to store it at 55 degrees F.
- HUMIDITY: Extreme low and high humidity can cause issues with bottle maintenance as well as the quality of the wine. In low humity conditions, wine corks can dry out and expose the wine to oxygen. It cases where the humidity is too high, wine labels will peel and mold can be introduced through the corks. Optimal humidity is between 50-70 percent.
